The Food Sustainability Project

Indiana has always been an agricultural state.  It has a proud tradition of producing some of it own food which this blog is dedicated to supporting.  Here at the Simmer Pot Cafe Blog, we’ve been vegetable gardening for some time as many people do over the summer.  But this past year I have decided to embark on a journey of self-sustainability.

From container gardening to raised bed plots.  From chickens to goats.  One person, some dirt, some seeds and some backyard chickens, learning to design a sustainable food production system at home. Follow along with me as we journey through what it takes to get started producing your own food, both vegetables and meat.  We’ll also discuss various food production systems as solutions for individuals, families, and various locations and budgets.  And how we can each have a part in helping provide for others in need in our own neighborhoods and our communities as Hoosiers have a fine tradition of doing.  The place to begin is Spring!  Let’s get growing and raising!  Let’s grow local and support Indiana food producers!

Update 3/30/14: Unless otherwise stated, we’ll be posting this blog on Fridays!  See ya at the end of the week…
